Frequently asked questions

These are questions about HyreElectrical as an organisation: what this site is, what it will not do, and how to judge whether to trust it. Technical questions are answered on the pages that own them, and each one is linked below rather than answered twice.

About this page

Every question below is about HyreElectrical itself — the business model, the data, the money and the limits. They are answered here because no other page on the site owns them.

Technical questions are deliberately not repeated here. Each service page carries its own FAQ covering its own subject, and answering the same question in two places would make both answers worse and neither authoritative. If your question is about the work rather than about us, these are the pages that answer it:

The short version

  • We do: publish primary-sourced research, cost analysis and decision guidance, free and ungated.
  • We do not: perform electrical work, dispatch anyone, or operate an emergency line.
  • We do not: rank electricians, sell placement, or publish sponsored or contributed content.
  • We do not: vet contractors, or publish national average prices.
  • We will: correct errors in place, and say what we could not verify.

Still not answered?

If your question is about the research, a correction, or something the site should cover and does not, send it to hello@hyreelectrical.com. What we can and cannot help with — and what to do instead if you have a live electrical fault — is set out on the contact page.

How this site sources, dates and corrects what it publishes is in the editorial policy, and what the organisation is and is not is on the about page. If you are an electrician rather than a homeowner, the straight answers are on for electricians.

Questions

Is HyreElectrical an electrical contractor?
No. HyreElectrical does not perform, supervise, inspect or warrant electrical work. We employ no electricians, pull no permits, schedule no inspections and issue no certificates. We are an independent information site that publishes primary-sourced research and is building a way to connect homeowners with local licensed electricians.
Will you send an electrician to my house?
No. We do not dispatch anyone and we do not operate a 24-hour line. Submitting an enquiry is not a service call, not an appointment and not a booking, and nobody attends your property as a result of it. For a live electrical problem, call the fire service, your utility or a licensed electrician directly.
Does it cost anything to use this site?
No. Everything published here is free to read, the calculators are free to use, and there is no charge for submitting an enquiry. Nothing is paywalled or gated behind an email address.
How do you make money, then?
The intention is to earn a fee for connecting homeowners with electrical professionals, once matching is operational. It is not operational yet. We take no payment for placement, ranking, links or a favourable mention, and we publish no contributed or sponsored content.
Do electricians pay to appear on HyreElectrical?
No. Nobody can buy a position, a ranking or a mention on this site. We publish no "best electrician" lists at all, because we hold no basis for one that would survive scrutiny. Our contractor records are research drawn from official licensing sources, not a paid directory.
Do you check or vet the electricians in your records?
No, and we are careful not to imply otherwise. We hold verified contractor records for five states drawn from official sources, which is research rather than a check performed on your behalf, and appearing in it is not an endorsement. Verifying the licence on the issuing board’s own register, on the day you hire, is the check that counts — our licence lookup routes you to the official board for every state and DC.
Why does so much of your data come from Florida?
Because that is where our contractor research started. Our store holds 16,369 electrical companies across 5 states, retrieved and counted on 5 September 2026, and 74% of them are Florida. We disclose that concentration in the first screen of any page that uses the store rather than burying it, and we make no national claim from it. Our separate licensing authority review does cover all 51 US jurisdictions, and that is the only one of the two we make national statements from.
Why won’t you tell me what a panel upgrade costs?
Because any national average we published would mislead you. Labour rates, the code edition your jurisdiction has adopted, whether the utility has to be involved and the condition of the existing wiring move electrical invoices too far for an average to inform a decision. What we publish instead is what drives the price, plus specific figures we can source and date — such as permit fees from named municipal fee sheets.
Who writes this site? There are no author names.
Everything is published under the HyreElectrical Research Desk, which is an organisational byline rather than a person. That is deliberate: this site carries no authored personas, no invented credentials and no fabricated years in the trade. Attributing research to a fictional expert is the first thing a careful reader checks, and we would rather have a byline that is plainly a desk.
Why do some pages say you could not verify something?
Because that is what happened, and hiding it would make the rest of the sourcing unverifiable. The clearest example is our NEC edition lookup, which publishes the attempts we made to obtain a state-by-state code adoption record from a primary source and the reason each one failed — which is why this site shows no adoption map when almost every competitor does.
Can you tell me if my quote is reasonable, or diagnose my problem?
No. We have not seen your installation, we are not licensed to assess it, and any opinion we offered would be worth nothing. What we can do is help you establish what the job actually is, what a complete scope contains and what questions make three quotes comparable. A licensed electrician looking at the actual circuit is the only thing that resolves a diagnosis.
Is HyreElectrical connected to the other Hyre sites?
Yes. HyreElectrical is part of the HYRE network of home-services information sites, which share a component system and a set of social accounts. Each site publishes its own research for its own trade; nothing is copied between them, and no figure from another trade’s site is reused here.
Something on this site is wrong. What do you do about it?
We correct it in place, on the page that was wrong, noting what changed and when — several pages carry visible correction notes for exactly this reason. Send it to hello@hyreelectrical.com with the page address and what you believe is incorrect.
